The World Bank has ranked Macedonia in the top five reformers in the world by the World Bank’s Doing Business project.
Macedonia was mostly praised for eliminating the minimum capital
requirement for business start-up, speeding up the process for
obtaining construction permits, lowering the corporate income tax rate
to 12 percent (with another cut to 10 percent planned for January
2008), and simplifying tax payment procedures.
The Doing Business project provides objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement across 178 countries.

The received fourth place in the World Bank's Doing
Business project in competition of 178 countries is a confirmation for
successful carrying out of the reforms in Macedonia last year. This
report is the most relevant in relation to conditions in doing business
in a country and the most independent source of the world professional
public, Deputy PM Zoran Stavrevski said Saturday addressing the members
of the Lions Club in Macedonia .
The government has clear goal, Stavrevski said, economic growth and better standard in relation to approach to EU and NATO.
It
undertakes several measures, flat tax, regulatory guillotine,
introduction of the rule silence is approval, reduced the tariffs and
expenditures in state institutions and shortened and facilitated the
procedures. The bigger are the signals that the business climate is
already improved and doing business is easy to start and to carry out,
Stavrevski said.
The two renowned global institutions positively assessed Macedonia in the past months.
In
the report of the Transparency International we are ranked as 74th i.e.
we have improved the situation for 20 rankings since last year. This is
the best verification that a country received so far for successfully
carried out reforms and strong will to combat corruption, Deputy PM
said.
He
underlined that every investor, creditor or business client that wants
to cooperate with a country firstly sees what is written in the reports
of the important financial international institutions.
The
reports of the World Bank and the Transparency International are the
biggest proof that Macedonia moves in the right direction however there
is still much to be done. By commitment in the reforms we are convinced
that the situations will become much better, Deputy PM Stavreski said.
